Volleyball, hoops leagues on tap
There are two organizational meetings on tap for youth volleyball and basketball leagues.
Volleyball: 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House. Parks and Recreation divisions are 14-and-under, 12U and 10U.
10U basketball: 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.
On both dates, registration packets will be distributed and league rules and format will be discussed.

Keaau High bowling practice
Keaau High students interested in participating on the varsity bowling team should report to practice at 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at KMC Bowling Alley.
Practice will be held every Tuesday at the KMC Bowling Alley – fees are $8 for three games each practice session. Bring extra money ($3) for shoe rental if necessary.
Students should have valid physicals prior to practice.

Auto Club holds one-day meet
The Big Island Auto Club held an abbreviated points meet Saturday at Hilo Drag Strip.
The “Quick Four” Bracket Race
Winner: Dean Kalawe, Keeau, in a Chevy S-10 pickup truck (8.92 sec/132 mph).
Runner-up: David Francis, Paauilo, in a Chevy Vega (11.46/115).
Fastest car on the track: Dean Kalawe, Keeau, in a Chevy S-10 pickup truck (8.76/154).

Top shot
DeLance Wiegele took top honors at a Big Island Trap Club shoot earlier this month at the county trap and skeet range.
In an event that featured 100 targets in singles and 50 pairs in a doubles event, Wiegele (176) was followed by Andy Hallingstad (173) and Neil Arakaki (164) .
The club’s next shoot is from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday. Participants must supply shotguns, ammunition and eye and ear protection.
